Hispanic Housing Development Corporation’s Pedro Albizu Campos Apartments

The Pedro Albizu Campos Apartments provide needed large units of affordable housing while advancing a community priority to mitigate the impact of increasing gentrification in Humboldt Park by preserving Paseo Boricua — the Puerto Rican cultural boulevard. More than half of the building’s 64 apartments are three-bedroom units. The architects drew inspiration from the traditional style that characterizes much of Humboldt Park, such as incorporating red brick and grey stone structures. The two-story stone-clad base distinguishes the site as an important building within the community. Pedro Albizu Campos Apartments is a vertical village that will be an affordable home to generations of community families and an important institution of cultural sustainability.
